Crowns are more commonly known as caps. Crowns may be placed for several reasons. They are generally placed because a tooth has been extensively damaged by decay or breakage and filling material is insufficient to restore form, function and strength. Crowns can also be used for cosmetic purposes to cover misshapen or discolored teeth. Crowns usually last at least 7 years but in many cases they last much longer, up to 20 years and longer. Dr. Lingo uses the Vita Easy Shade® for precise color matching.
