Denture Implants

There are two types of implant-supported dentures: bar- retained and ball- retained. Bar-retained dentures require a minimum of three implants. Ball-retained dentures are also known as stud attachment dentures and need at least two implants. The usual placement for implants is in the jawbone at the front of your mouth. Implant supported dentures are more stable than regular dentures. An upper implant supported denture has the advantage of feeling more natural because it does not cover the roof of your mouth. The total process takes several months to complete.

  • Bar-retained dentures have a thin metal bar that follows the curve of your jaw and is attached to five implants that have been placed in your jawbone.
  • Ball-retained dentures have an attachment on the denture that fits onto the implant that is attached to the jawbone. The implants are usually ball shaped that fit into sockets on the denture.
