There are two types of extractions:
-
A simple extraction is an extraction that does not require an incision. A local anesthetic is used, with or without anti-anxiety drugs and oral sedation. There is usually very little discomfort after the surgery.
-
A surgical extraction requires a flap to be cut in the gum for access to section the tooth and/or remove bone. Teeth that are broken off at the gum line usually require surgical extraction. A local anesthetic is used, with or without anti-anxiety drugs and oral sedation. There is usually very little discomfort after the surgery.
